Our Story
SBCS was started in May of 1974 at the recommendation of Pastor Joe Courson and the Fellowship of Deacons as an outreach ministry of Stetson Baptist Church. The school started with pre-kindergarten and kindergarten classes. A school board of seven (7) church members was elected to govern the school. The school became officially known as Stetson Baptist Christian School in September 1979. Over the next six years, grades one through six were added. Seventh grade was added in 1988 and eighth grade in 1989. SBCS achieved accreditation from the Florida Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (FACCS) in 2013. Serving the DeLand community for over 50 years, SBCS continues to offer “Education for Eternity” for our students, facilitated through our Christian employees.
Academic Excellence
Our students go on to attend top public and private high schools, where they thrive in specialized academies and excel in challenging Honors and IB courses. The strong foundational education they receive at our school prepares them to succeed in these rigorous academic environments, setting them apart as leaders in their high school communities.
Spiritual Life
At Stetson Baptist Christian School, students have Bible class and experience a biblical worldview integrated into all their academic lessons. Weekly chapel is a key part of their spiritual growth, where they sing praises, worship, and hear an inspiring message from a pastor, helping to strengthen their faith.
"For nothing will be impossible with God."
Enrichment
Through programs in music, fine arts, and sports, we provide students with opportunities to explore their talents, build confidence, and grow in creativity and physical fitness. These activities foster teamwork, discipline, and self-expression, helping students develop important life skills that extend beyond the classroom.
